URI Tied for 8th After Day 1 of Bash at the Beach

The University of Rhode Island Golf team is in a tie for 8th place after two rounds at the Bash on the Beach at Surf Golf & Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Rhode Island is one-over par as a team entering Tuesday’s final round.

“There were a lot of good things on a day of golf where we left a dozen shots out there on very scorable par fives and shorter par fours. The first 18 was kicking off some rust and the second 18 was a time to stretch our legs. We got it to five under but the mental fatigue of not competing for five months caught up with us,” said Head Coach Gregg Burke after the round.

Junior Bryson Richards leads the Rams with a two-round score of 5-under par 137.

He is in seventh place overall for the tournament.

“Bryson showed again that he is our best player. He wanted a lot more out of his second round but a card with no bogies is good anytime and anywhere,” said Burke.

Meanwhile, Brandon Gillis is even through two rounds and is tied for 35th overall.

“Brandon had as bad a putting day as I have seen in the seven years I’ve watched him, so I expect a great number from him tomorrow,” said Burke.

Gillis is just one of five players to be even par after day one.
