Henrik Stenson has been named captain of the European Ryder Cup team for the 2023 matches at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Rome, Italy.

He will go up against Zach Johnson’s U.S. squad who enters the Cup as the defending champion. 

Europe has won six straight Ryder Cups at home, last losing at The Belfry in 1993.

In five Ryder Cup appearances as a player, Stenson has won 11 points and three cups, his last as a player coming in Paris. 

Stenson served as vice captain last year.

Henrik Stenson is a great guy with one of the best dry wits around, but he has a really tough job on his hands as Ryder Cup captain.

Half the team will probably be the old school, the backbone with maybe six unknown-ish rookies.
