URI Golf Opens Spring Season Monday in Myrtle Beach

The University of Rhode Island men’s golf team opens their spring season on Monday down in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina at The Bash at the Beach.
Rhode Island is looking to build on a successful fall season in which Rhody notched four top-five finishes.
“We had a terrific first semester, given that we played with some guys who didn’t figure to be in the lineup before the season started. Winning at GreatHorse was terrific because we beat the Big East Champion and on its home course. We were just spectacular for much of the tournament at VCU, with a final round of 9-under which was the best in as good a field as we’ve played. Would have been nice to hold on at Villanova but it was a good event for us just the same,” said URI Head Coach Gregg Burke.

The Bash at the Beach is hosted by Appalachian State and goes from March 14-15.
Following The Bash on the Beach, Rhody will head to Maryland for the Carpetbagger Classic and then the Battle at Rum Pointe.
“The Bash at the Beach has a terrific field of teams who have all played the golf course before so between that and the wet conditions up here, it will be a test. The Carpetbagger, another new tournament for us, will be another solid field and one we will find out where we are. The Battle at Rum Pointe will be played on yet another course we have never seen,” said Burke.
After that, it’s back to the Northeast for the Hartford/Wintonberry Hills Invitational, followed by a trip to Pennsylvania for Lafayette’s Abarta Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational.
Leading URI
The Rams will be led by redshirt Seniors Brandon Gillis and Jordan Brajccich this spring season.
Both players posted multiple good showings in the fall season and will look to build on that.
The other player to watch is Bryson Richards, the defending Vermont Amateur Champion, and will look to build on the fall season.
