Cam Smith Wins The Players

Australia’s Cam Smith posted a final round 66 to hold on and win The Players Championship on Monday evening at TPC Sawgrass, in Florida.

The tournament was forced to finish on Monday due to a long stretch of bad weather over the weekend.

It is the first Monday finish since 2005.

This is Smith’s second win of the season and gets him inside the top 10 in the Official World Golf Rankings.

This is Smith’s second win of the season, after winning the Tournament of Champions back in January.

Smith Hangs on

Leading the tournament for a good portion of the back nine, Smith saved par on the 16th hole after putting his tee shot in the trees.

On 17, Smith went right at the flag stick and put it within a few feet, and then made the birdie putt to open up a three-shot lead going into the final hole.

Smith said afterward that he actually didn’t mean to go right at the flag on 17, the wind changed on him.

On 18, Smith put his tee shot again in the right trees and then punched out into the water, putting his tournament in jeopardy.

However, he would up and down to save bogey and maintain his one shot lead.

Smith had 42 one-putts in the tournament, that’s four more than any other Players Champion in history.

It would be good enough to sneak out of TPC Sawgrass with a win.
