MA Town of Wareham Votes to Purchase Little Harbor CC
The Massachusetts town of Wareham voted to buy the Little Harbor Country Club last week.
In a meeting attended by nearly 500 people, 423 of them voted to purchase the golf course, while only 34 voted against.
“Protecting these 54 acres from development allows for continued public access, the potential for future walking trails, all-person accessible trails, benefits the quality of the bay, allows for salt marsh migration, flood control, protects existing wetlands and forests and maintains wildlife corridors and natural habitats,” said Kathy Pappalardo, president of the Wareham Land Trust in a statement to Wareham.theweektoday.
The golf course has been on the market for a good period of time, however, after a potential deal with Mass Audobon fell through this past summer, course owners started negotiations with the town board on buying the property and saving the course.
Last week, the deal to purchase the course and greenspace that comes with it was approved.
