3 Rhode Islanders, Charlie Woods Highlight Field at PGA National Holiday Open
The Rhode Islanders tour of Florida continues this week with the PGA National Holiday Open at the Fazio Course at PGA National.
In the 16-8 division, La Salle’s Joseph Early is in the field while in the boys 11-13 division, Lincoln’s Joey Iaciofano and Rocco Capalbo are competing with the world’s most famous 12-year-old, Charlie Woods.
The two-round tournament began on Monday and ends on Tuesday.
Following the first round of play, Iaciofano is in a tie for 5th at four-over par for the tournament, following a first round 76.
Westerly’s Rocco Capalbo is in 13th with a score of 11-over par (83) in the first round.
Both are just behind Charlie Woods, who is in a tie for 3rd with a first round score of three-over (75).
Of course, Woods is fresh off a second place finish at the PNC Championship with his father, Tiger Woods.
It is not known if Tiger was at the tournament watching his son.
Meanwhile, in the boys 16-18 division, La Salle’s Joseph Early sits in a tie for tenth after round one.
Earley posted a first round score of nine-over 81 to sit in tenth with three other players.
He is ten shots off the lead heading into Tuesday’s final round.
