Kevin Blaser Wins Cape Cod Amateur

Kevin Blaser beat Nathan Roberts 3&2 on Sunday to win the Cape Cod Amateur Championship at Hyannisport.

This is Blaser’s second win in as many weeks after closing out the marathon Burke Memorial Tournament at Pawtucket Country Club the week before.

“The last three months have been good. I won the Dennis Four-Ball with Mark Lounsbury, then the following weekend I won the Gilholm Cup at New Bedford with Quigs,” Blaser told GolfNewsRI.

Much like the RI Amateur, the Cape Cod Amateur started with a stroke play qualifier and the top 32 advancing to match play.

Blaser entered match play as the number 2 seed after battling windy conditions during the qualifier.

“Qualifier was blowing 25+,” said Blaser.

Championship Match

Blaser got off to a great start in the match.

He holed it out from the short side on the first hole for a birdie, then made an up-and-down from the bunker on the second hole to go to two up right off the jump.

Blaser held as much as a four-shot lead at the turn.

“He came back strong with a birdie at 13. Then he hit one seven feet on 14. I had 90 yards in and hit it just inside him. We both made birdie,” said Blaser.

ON the par-5 16, Blaser was on in two and made birdie to close out the match and take the title.
