Welch to Sit Again, Oklahoma Faces Pepperdine in East Lake Cup Semi-Finals

Patrick Welch will be sitting once again as top-ranked Oklahoma faces defending National Champion Pepperdine in the semi-finals of the East Lake Cup.
Welch missed out on defending his title during the stroke play portion of the East Lake Cup on Monday.

After Welch won the event in 2020, Oklahoma’s Chris Gotterup won it in 2021.
If the Sooners were to beat Pepperdine on Tuesday and advance to the finals, it would seem unlikely Welch would be put in the lineup for the championship match on Wednesday.
This is Oklahoma’s last tournament of the fall season.
Welch in the Fall
Over the last few months, Welch has seen his stock rise, fall and rise again on the PGA Tour University rankings.
Most recently, he climbed two spots to number 30 in the rankings, but he was previously 32 and 26 before that.
In Oklahoma’s previous tournament in early October, Welch won a match against Oklahoma State’s Dillion Stewart to help the Sooners clinch a bronze medal in the Big 12 Match Play Championship.
