URI Leads UConn Invitational After Round 1
The University of Rhode Island Golf team leads the UConn Invitational at GreatHorse in Massachusetts after the first round.
The Rams fired a six-under 282 and lead second place Army West Point by four shots heading into Monday’s second round.
“Generally, we played well today but we left so many shots out there. We actually took three doubles on the back,” said head coach Gregg Burke after the round.
Iona is tied for 10th, however, Colin Sutyala is not playing in the tournament.
Bryant University is tied for 13th after round one, more than 20 shots behind URI.
Round two begins Monday morning.
The Rams were led by Andrew DiPetrillo and Jordan Brajcich, who both posted a first round 69.
On the individual leaderboard, they are in a tie for second place.
“Hats off to Andrew who had a clean card. He had three birdies but had another six or seven birdie putts inside 15 feet,” says Burke.
DiPetrillo’s three-under score came as a result of 15 pars and three birdies.
Brajcich had five birdies, and one of just five eagles on the day as he finished the par-5 14th hole in just three strokes.
The Bulldogs were led by Jack Woods who posted a first round 72 to sit in a tie for 11th.
Following him was Tyler Hahn who posted 75 and Cael Kohan who posted 77.
