URI in 3rd After Day 1 of Wildcat Fall Invitational
The University of Rhode Island men’s golf team sits in third place after day one of the Villanova Wildcat Fall Invitational on Monday at Radnor Valley Country Club in Pennsylvania.
Through 36 holes, as a team, the rams are nine-over par (569) and eight shots behind first place Delaware, who is one-over as a team.
“We had three players as a group that finished two-under for the day, and the other two combined to shoot 28-over. We had three players in the top-10 and are still eight back. While all those stats sound negative, I see it as opportunity to pick up a lot of ground tomorrow. Tomorrow will say a lot about who we are,” said head coach Gregg Burke after the round.
Round two takes place on Tuesday morning.
Junior Bryson Richards and redshirt senior Brandon Gillis are tied for second place a 3-under.
Both golfers shot a 68 in the first round and a 69 in the second round.
Gillis had nine birdies on the day, tops among the field of 45.
Richards led the field in pars made, with 29.
Sophomore Andrew DiPetrillo is alone in 10th place after two rounds of play, combining for a 4-over 144 (72-72).
