URI Finishes 3rd at Lagowitz Memorial
The University of Rhode Island men’s golf team finished in third place this week at the Lagowitz Memorial in New York.
The Rams posted a team score of 18-over par (882) to finish behind second place Seton Hall and first place Yale, who were 2-under as a team.
“Yale outplayed us and deserved to win the event, but we were the second best team in the tournament. We need to be able to execute in order to battle a team as talented as Yale,” said URI Head Coach Gregg Burke after the round.

Rhode Island was led by Brandon Gillis, who posted a one-under par 215 for the three round tournament.
“Brandon was minus-3 over the final 12 holes and missed a playoff by one stroke. He misjudged the speed of some putts, but it shows just how strong his overall game is for him to finish as he did,” Burke added.
Bryson Richards finished in a tie for 11th at two-over par, while Andrew DiPetrillo finished in a tie for 33rd at nine-over par.
Jordan Brajcich rounded out the URI lineup, he finished in a tie for 36th.

The Rams return to action on Monday, September 13 for the VCU Invitational.
“As we head to the VCU Invitational, we need to know who is going to step up and solidify spots No. 3 and No. 4 as well as No. 5 and No. 6 in our lineup. We need a full lineup through the top six spots to compete the way we believe we can,” said Burke.
