Dr. George Pirie Leads RI Senior Amateur After Round 1
Rhode Island golf legend Doctor George Pirie leads the Rhode Island Senior Amateur at Warwick Country Club by one shot after the first round of play on Tuesday.
Going off just after 8 a.m., Pirie posted a one-over 70 in round one to take a one shot lead over five other players including another legend, Paul Quigley, and PC basketball legend Joe Hassett.
Pirie has won two RI Senior Amateurs, and three Amateur Championships in his career.
The second and final round goes off Wednesday morning.
Other players who are one shot back include Ledgemont’s Derek Johnson, Kirkbrae’s John Auclair and West Warwick’s Jeff Kern.
Pirie’s First Round
Pirie parred his first eight holes before making birdie on the tough par-3 ninth hole to make the turn at one-under par.
On the back side, Pirie parred the first six holes, before bogeying two of his last three holes to finish at one-over par for the day.
