RI’s Austin Cilley Plays Golf Round with Former President Donald Trump

There are only a handful of people in the country that can say that they have played golf with a President – and RI’s Austin Cilley is one of them.

Cilley, and a group of buddies, played golf with former President Donald Trump on Thursday at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster.

“I was going down to Bedminster, New Jersey to play with John Smoltz the Hall of Fame pitcher who I met through my buddy Dan and have played with a half a dozen times and Smoltz plays a few times a year with Mr. President and he called and asked if we wanted to play with him,” Cilley told GolfNewsRI.

The others in the group, other than Cilley and Smotlz, included Shawn David and Daniel Weinman.

The group was surrounded by secret service with shields, long gun and armored vehicles.

“Honestly, it was very laid back, the whole day was great, interesting playing with secret service but that was actually a very cool part, they were super interactive and warming and the stories created and heard will always be with us in the group,” added Cilley.

As for Trump’s golf game, “we had a nice friendly match, he hit it much better than we expected, I won’t put a number on it though, Smoltz shot -2 and I shot even.”
