Connecticut Golf Club to Require Proof of Vaccination for Guests

A Connecticut golf club is among the first in the country to require its guests to be fully vaccinated in order to enter.

Canaan Country Club made the announcement on its Facebook page on Wednesday.

“Due to the recent increase in Covid cases, we are now requiring all guests of both The Canaan Country Club &  The Belted Cow to be fully vaccinated. We apologize for this inconvenience and hope that you understand. We are only trying to keep both guests and employees safe. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. – Management,” writes the club.

This comes as Covid cases rise throughout the New England region and the country.

In Rhode Island, multiple entertainment facilities are requiring vaccines to enter including PPAC, Trinity Rep and others. However, it has not gotten to the level of golf clubs yet.

During the height of the pandemic, golf was deemed one of the safest activities that a person could do because of the fact it was outside and naturally socially distanced.

While other industries struggled, golf saw a giant boom during the pandemic with play increasing at an all-time rate.

Visceral Reaction

Upon making the announcement, Canaan Country Club received rapid reaction on Facebook with people threatening to not go there and others asking questions.

Some agree with the policy.

“What about the members who paid a yearly fee that aren’t vaccinated or those who were given gift certificates who aren’t vaccinated…. Better be reimbursed,” wrote Katelyn Marie Habacker in the comments.

Sarah Gulotta added, “So anyone holding a current membership can no longer golf outdoors, socially distanced (low to no risk) unless vaccinated? What about the people who cannot vaccinate due to personal health reasons? They’re discriminated against?”

Brooke Canger Humes agrees with the policy, “I’m on board C.C.C. Let’s just do our part”
