Rahm Blasts FedEx Cup Playoff System

PGA Tour star and major champion Jon Rahm blasted the current FedEx Cup Playoff system in his press conference on Friday following round two of the Northern Trust.

This comes despite the fact that he is leading the tournament, and projected to win the entire thing.

“I don’t like it. I don’t think it’s fair,” Rahm said when asked about it.

He continued, ““I understand the system, and the way I was told by one of the PGA Tour officials – I’m a Patriots fan, and the Patriots win everything, and get to the Super Bowl and they don’t win the Super Bowl, you don’t win the Lombardi Trophy, right? My answer was, they still finished second. They have to understand golf is a little different.”

Rahm also took a shot at the format for the Tour Championship format.

The format, which started a couple of years ago, sees the FedEx Cup leader start the tournament with a two shot advantage over the rest of the field.

“At the end of the day you could win 15 events, including both playoffs events, and you have a two-shot lead to start the week at the Tour Championship. I understand it’s for TV purposes and excitement and just making it more of a winner-take-all, and they give you a two-shot advantage, but over four days that can be gone in two holes.”

Rahm holds a one shot lead over Tony Finau heading into the third round of the Northern Trust on Saturday.

He tees off at 1:50 p.m.
