Chatfield Loses in U.S. Amateur Quarterfinal
Davis Chatfield’s magical run at the U.S. Amateur at Oakmont Country Club has come to an end.
Chatfield lost in the quarterfinal to Nick Gabrelcik one-up on Friday afternoon to be eliminated from the tournament.
Like in his round of 16 match, Chatfield was three down after the tenth hole and fought his way back to even on the 14th hole.
However, Gabrelcik won the 15th hole to go back up one.
The two players halved the next three holes to give Gabrelcik the win.
Summer of Runs for Chatfield
This has been a summer of runs for the 2016 RI Amateur Champion.
To start the year, he and Notre Dame teammate Palmer Jackson made it to the semifinals of the U.S. Four-Ball Championship.
Then a month or so later, Chatfield finished in a tie for 5th at the Northeast Amateur, starting the final round just two shots off the lead.
After a disappointing showing at the Western Amateur, Chatfield made it to the quarterfinal of the U.S. Amateur.
This was his first ever quarterfinal appearance
