URI Golf Earns GCAA President’s Special Recognition Award

The University of Rhode Island Golf team was awarded the 2020-21 Presidents Special Recognition award from the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

The award honors programs that have a team grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

This is the third time in four years that the Rams have earned the award. Before 2018, the program had never earned the distinction.

“As much as the individual awards mean to us, the team award is even more significant. Earning this award three times in the last four years says everything you need to know about how important academic success is to us. Our team had a 3.63 grade point average for the year. Combine that with coming in fourth in the Atlantic 10 Championship and winning at the Rolling Green Collegiate, and you can see that this is a very special group,” said head coach Gregg Burke

Rhode Island was one of just 44 Division I programs nationally to earn the distinction, and it was the only New England school across all three NCAA divisions to be honored.
