Chatfield, Valois Outside Cut Line After Round 1 of U.S. Amateur

Round two of the U.S. Amateur is set to get underway at Oakmont Country Club and both Davis Chatfield and Brad Valois are a few shots outside the match play cut line. 

Chatfield fired a first round 73 (3-over) at Longue Vue Club, but now switches to the tougher playing Oakmont.

Valois shot a six over 76 in the first round at Oakmont, now switches to Longue Vue Club for round two. 

At the start of round two, the cut is one over par, but is likely to move up a stroke or two. 

The entire match play portion of the tournament will be played at Oakmont.

Chatfield’s First Round 

Chatfield got off to a good start, making a birdie on the par-5 fourth hole to get to one under. 

However, from there is was a struggle. 

Chatfield bogeyed the fifth hole and the ninth hole to drop to one over for the round. 

He then made back-to-back bogeys on the 10th and 11th holes to get to three over on the day. 

He parred in the rest of the way to shoot 73. 

Valois’ First Round

Playing on a tough Oakmont course, Valois got off to an ideal start, birding the fourth hole to get to one under, which he remained through six holes. 

A double-bogey on the seventh hole set him back, however, he recovered with a birdie on the ninth hole. 

Brad Valois

Making the turn at even par, Valois parred 10,11 and 12, before his round went down hill. 

The four-time RI Amateur champ made three straight bogeys from 13-15, before tripling the par-3 16th hole. 

A birdie on 17 was followed up with a bogey on 18 to shoot 76.
