Rhode Islanders stick together and there is no better case than this week’s U.S. Senior Open. 

Billy Andrade is tied for the lead at five-under after the first round and is crediting Brad Faxon for helping him out. 

“Brad Faxon. I worked with him at the beginning of the year and he told me my putter is too light. He had Justin Leonard staying at his house during the Honda Classic, and he told me my putter was too light. I’ve had the same putter for all these years and now it’s too light. It took me a half a year here to realize maybe it is a little light,” said Andrade in an interview with Golf Channel after the round. 

Andrade posted a five-under par 65 in the first round to finish the day in a tie for the lead with Stephen Ames. 

On the front side, Andrade dropped birdie putts at the second and sixth holes. 

On the sixth hole, a par-5, Andrade was actually on in two and ended up with a tap in birdie. 

Making the turn to the backside, Andrade birdied the 13th, 16th and 17th holes to get to five-under for the day. 

He played the round bogey-free.

Quigley Struggles in Round 1 

While Andrade is leading the way, fellow Rhode Islander Brett Quigley is in a tie for 44th after round one. 

Quigley fired a two0over 72 in the first round and is tied with multiple players.
