Chatfield Just 5 Shots Back After Round 2 of Northeast Amateur
While the majority of the local 9 are fighting to make the cut going into day three, Davis Chatfield is just five shots off the lead going into the weekend on his home course.
Chatfield posted an even par 69 on Thursday and is one under for the tournament, five back of leader Bryce Lewis after the second round of the Northeast Amateur on Thursday at Wannamoisett.
“I know this course really well, I’ve been a member here for seven years. So, just try to hit as many fairways as possible, make it as stress free as possible and wherever that leaves me at the end of the day, I’ll be good with it,” Chatfield told GolfNewsRI after the round.

Followed by a massive gallery all day, Chatfield needed two clutch par putts on his last nine holes (the front 9) to remain under par.
The first clutch par putt came on the second hole after he put his second shot in the bunker on the left.
The second came on his 18th hole (9th hole) after he ran a birdie putt several feet back.
“I thought I hit a great shot and would have an easy two-putt, but it ended up in a tricky spot. I knew if it didn’t hit the hole I was going to have five feet coming back. It’s good to make those, especially to end the day,” added Chatfield.
Chatfield will have an early afternoon tee time on Friday.
Rhode Islanders Struggling
Other than Chatfield, the eight other Rhode Islanders in the field are in a battle to make the cut.
The cut comes after Friday’s round and will include the top 60 players and ties. As of Thursday night, five-over par would be the cut.
Expectations are that it could go up to six or seven over by the end of tomorrow.
