Chatfield, Lukowicz in Mix After Round 1 of Northeast Amateur
Day one of the Northeast Amateur at Wannamoisett Country Club is in the books and, for the most part, it was a struggle for the nine Rhode Islanders in the field.
“Conditions were really tough. There was not one easy pin placement on the course,” said Mike Hamilton about the round.
The two Rhode Islanders that did find some success in the day were Davis Chatfield and Jamie Lukowicz.

After a bogey on 12 to drop him to one-over, Chatfield dropped long birdie putts on 13 and 17 to get him to one under and in a tie for fifth.
He is five shots off the lead of Bryce Lewis.
Lukowicz got off to a bad start, bogeying three of his first four holes to fall to three-over.
However, birdies on six and eight got him back to one over on the day
The defending RI Amateur champ would bogey the par 3 12th (the one with the big bunker), before getting it back with a birdie on 15.
He is in a tie for 23rd.
The Northeast Amateur cut comes after Friday. Top 60 and ties make it to Saturday’s final round.

Overall Leaders
Scoring was tough throughout the day, especially for the morning round who had to deal with a little bit of wind.
However, not for University of Tennessee product Bryce Lewis.
Going out in the afternoon, Lewis lit up Wannamoisett, posting a six-under 63 to lead the Northeast Amateur by three-shots heading into day two.
After being one-under through the first nine, Lewis played the back nine in five-under par to take control of the tournament.
