Fight Breaks Out on Korn Ferry Tour, Player Arrested
A fight between two players broke out during a Monday qualifier for the Korn Ferry Tour’s Wichita Open at Sand Creek Station Golf Course, the Tour confirmed.
According to Firepit Collective’s Ryan French, the fight started when Austen Dailey confronting Luke Smith about not helping to tend the flag or search for a lost golf ball.
Smtih’s dad was caddying for him and did not take the accusations well.
After a brief shouting match, Smith reportedly jumped on Dailey and began punching him.
When a third player in the group tried to break up the fight, Smith’s father began swinging a putter at him to keep him away.
The Pro Shop was then called to break up the fight.
Smith was taken to the clubhouse and arrested after Dailey decided to press charges.
The Korn Ferry Tour issued the following statement to Golfweek:
“The Korn Ferry Tour is aware of the incident that occurred at today’s qualifier in Newton, Kansas. The individuals involved are not current Korn Ferry Tour members. We are in the process of gathering more details and have no further comment at this time.”
