East Greenwich Leads Hendricken by 1 Shot After First Round of State Championship
The East Greenwich Avengers lead Bishop Hendricken by one shot after day one of the RI High School State Championship at Cranston Country Club.
The Avengers posted a team score of 24-over par, while Hendricken got in the clubhouse at 25-over par.

The two rivals were the favorites to win the title at the start of the season.
It is going to be us and East Greenwich battling it out,” Hendricken coach Rick Angeli told GolfNewsRI prior to the season.
It appears that it just might.
EG was led by multi-sport star Jack McMullen, who posted a three-over 74 on the day with a birdie on the par-5 13th hole.
McMullen’s round was capped off with an incredible chip from the left rough on 18 to within tap-in distance to secure a par.
Michael Quattromani and Ryan Marcantonio posted 76 and Jake Barron fired an 82 to complete the EG scoring.
Hendricken was led by RI Amateur qualifier Ricky Angeli, who posted a one-over 72 on the day, with a birdie on the 17th hole.
Andrew Chadwick and Brady Williams added a pair of 78s.
The Hawks overcame a tough day for Harry Grimes, who posted a ten-over 81 on Tuesday.
Other Teams Lurking
While the focus going into the final round on Wednesday will be on those two teams.
There are others lurking.
La Salle posted 31-over par and just seven shots back of EG, while Wheeler and Barrington are nine and ten shots back respectively.
The Max Jackson Show
On the individual side, La Salle star freshman Max Jackson posted a one-under par 70 to lead the field by two shots.
Jackson got off to a rough start with two bogeys in the first four holes, but from there, he played the round at three-under.

Jackson birdied the tough par-3 eighth hole and then birdied 11 to get back to even par on the day.
Coming in, Jackson birdied 17 and just missed a birdie at 18 to post 70.
Pilgrim’s Joshua Speel and Angeli are one-over, while Narragansett’s Sebastian Carlsson and McMullen are three-over for the tournament.
