Dickson & Welch Sit While Oklahoma, Georgia Tech Battle for NCAA Title

It is an exciting time for college golf as 16 teams are left to battle for an NCAA Championship out in Arizona.

However, for the two Rhode Islanders involved, it is not so exciting.

Both Will Dickson (Georgia Tech) and Patrick Welch (Oklahoma) are sitting in the tournament.

Dickson played in a practice round prior to the tournament starting.

Welch was listed as an alternate heading into the championship, as GolfNewsRI reported.

Currently, the Yellow Jackets are in a tie for 15th with TCU and will be in a playoff on Monday morning to determine the last spot entering the final day of stroke play.

Oklahoma is currently in second place behind Oklahoma state and barring an epic disaster, is in good shape to advance to the match play portion of the tournament.

Another shot for Dickson and Welch?

It is hard to see that happening, given how hot the current lineups are, especially for Oklahoma.

Tech has to win the playoff tomorrow for Dickson to even have a chance.

Golf Channel picks up coverage of the final stroke play round at 3 p.m.
