Welch, Dickson Sit as Oklahoma & Georgia Tech Advance

Patrick Welch posted an eight over par 80 in round round of the NCAA Tournament Albuquerque Regional, and did not see the course for the next two days.

Freshman Ben Lorenz took his place and helped the University of Oklahoma rally to make the NCAA Championship.

“We decided to make the move to put Lorenz into the lineup because Patrick (Welch) just hasn’t been feeling it great on the putting green. We believe in Ben and trusted that he could get the job done. For him to come out today with all sorts of pressure and shoot a couple under par was the difference in us moving on,” said Oklahoma Head Coach Ryan Hybl after the final round.

Lorenz shot a two-under par 70 in the final round including a clutch birdie on 18 to help Oklahoma advance.

For Oklahoma, the NCAA Championship begins May 28.

Will Dickson, Georgia Tech Advance

Similar to Welch, formers Moses Brown star Will Dickson did not play the final round for Georgia Tech on Wednesday.

Dickson was five-over through two rounds while the Yellow Jackets were hanging on to a spot inside the top five.
