Kokrak Outduels Spieth to Win Charles Schwab Challenge
In a major upset, Jason Kokrak out dueled Jordan Spieth in Spieth’s hometown to win the Charles Schwab Challenge on Sunday afternoon in Texas.
Kokrak finished the tournament at 14-under par, while Spieth finished two shots behind at 12-under par.
This is Kokrak’s first win on Tour since October of 2020, when he took home the CJ Cup.
Kokrak Takes Down Spieth
Playing at home, Spieth entered the final round with a one shot lead over Kokrak.
However, Spieth did not have much on the day, and it was obvious from the get go.
He bogeyed three of his first five holes to assure Kokrak was going to be in it for the long haul.
Kokrak didn’t get off to a great start either, bogeying two of his first four, but than dropping birdies at the fifth and sixth holes to take the lead for the first time.
Spieth would bounce back with birdies at six and nine to pull into a tie for the lead despite playing poorly.
However, Spieth did nothing on the back nine except make two bogeys, while Kokrak dropped two birdies on 11 and 13 to build a two shot lead heading down the stretch.
Kokrak made things interesting on 15 and 16 when Kokrak made back-to-back bogeys to give Spieth a chance.
Entering the final hole, Spieth trailed by one shot, however, the tournament was pretty much over when he put his second shot in the water.
