Gianna Papa Headed to Ponaganset, Sister Vinny to Follow
In a move that could shake up the high school golf scene in Rhode Island, Gianna Papa is heading to Ponaganset for the 2021-2022 school year.
In addition, Gianna’s sister Vincenza “Vinny,” will be heading to Ponaganset the year after.
“Can’t wait to start high school and meet the golf coach and my teammates, and also play for a few state titles. Also looking forward to having my sister Vinny as my teammate the following year,” Papa told GolfNewsRI.

According to Paul Papa, father to Gianna and Vinny, the other school in the running was La Salle, however, given Ponaganset’s closeness to home (in Foster), the Chieftains won out.
The Papa Sisters
In 2020, Gianna papa had a summer to remember.
She claimed victory at the Rhode Island Stroke Play Championship,
Gianna also won the RI Girls Junior Amateur Championship last season, but lost to Alexis Florio in the RI Women’s Amateur final.
