3 URI Rams Advance to U.S. Open Sectional Qualifying

Walthouse and Spitz earned medalist honors with even par 71s.

“Rhody Rams baby! Of the five guys qualifying at Ledge, both medalists are URI grads and Chris is on the team now. Hammer (Mike Hamilton) was 115th so we had four Rams (all but Spitz played for me) in the top 15. Ironically, the three qualifying are all going to Century Club, the site of my first win as Head Coach,” URI Head Coach Gregg Burke told GolfNewsRI.

Francoeur got in by winning a four players for three spots playoff on the 17th hole at Ledgemont.

Francoeur made par, along with Peter French and James Hervol, while Garth McGee made bogey.

All five players who qualified are Challenge Cup alumni.
