Francoeur Wins Individual Title, URI Finishes 2nd at Upstate Spring Escape
URI star Chris Francoeur dropped birdie putts on the final two holes to win the individual title at the Upstate Spring Escape on Saturday afternoon in New York.
Francoeur was tied with St. Bonaventure’s Danny Gianniny through 16 holes, before Francoeur made back-to-back birdies to finish off a seven-under round of 65.

“When you are tied with two holes to play, it is no longer about golf. It is about your heart and your ability to be competitive. Chris was Chris today, and the way he finished showed exactly what he is made of,” said Head Coach Gregg Burke after the round.
Overall, Francoeur made nine birdies in the round.
While Francoeur was lighting it up, the Rams played pretty well themselves, finished second in the three team field. They beat the hosts, Colgate, by five shots.
Originally scheduled as a two-day tournament, Sunday’s round of the Upstate Spring Escape was canceled due to inclement weather expected in the area.
URI will now get ready for the A10 Championship next weekend.
