High School Golf Preview: South Division

There are just two divisions left in GolfNewsRI’s high school golf preview series, the South Division and the East Division.

Let’s go to the South where Prout has previously reigned supreme.

Prout

In 2019, Prout went 14-0 to win the division and advance to the State Championship.

They were one of three teams to go 14-0 that season.

In 2021, the Crusaders will be led by team captain Emily Trainor, the only senior on the squad.

The Prout School

According to her profile on Next College Student Athlete (NCSA), Trainor is a 12 handicap and shoot an average score of 85 on 18 holes.

Trainor will be followed up by juniors Chris Pimentel, Billy Costello and Jack Ayers.

Prout will also look to get a boost from sophomores DJ Bruno, Andrew DiCarlo and Mark Roberts.

North Kingstown

After going 12-2 during the 2019 season, North Kingstown returns a strong squad in 2021.

The Skippers have seven seniors on the roster, including Sean Wright, Casey Westall, Trent Ouellette, Jake Nalewaik, Madeline Kment, Nathan Hoogasian, and Jacob Cedor.

North Kingstown Skippers

North Kingstown also has a plethora of juniors on the roster including Aidan Zarrella, Caroline Connell, Conall Gately, Raleigh Gouveia, Cameron Joyce, Kelan McDonald, Matthew Mureddu and Jayram Suryanarayan.

The Skippers enter the 2021 season with a deep roster and a lot of experience.

Best of The Rest

South Kingstown and Coventry tied for third in 2019, both going 9-5.

The Oakers lost a big senior class to graduation in 2019 and so this season could be a rebuilding year.

South Kingstown will be led by junior Michael Marcotte, the remainder of the roster has yet to be published.

Exeter/West Greenwich, Westerly, Narragansett and Chariho are all looking to rebound from losing seasons in 2019.

Westerly will be led by seniors Mya Malkemes, Khushi Patel, and Carter Rathbun.
