BREAKING: Matsuyama Wins First Men’s Major for Japan – The Masters

With the weight of an entire country on his shoulders, Hideki Matsuyama won The Masters on Sunday afternoon at Augusta National.

The victory is the first ever men’s major championship for the country of Japan.

Matsuyama finished with a score of 10-under par for the tournament, one shot ahead of Will Zalatoris.

Back in 2011, Matsuyama won the Low Amateur trophy at The Masters.

Matsuyama Runs Away With it

After a big third round, Matsuyama entered the final round with a four shot lead.

He saw the lead cut to one shot in the opening couple of holes when Zalatoris birdied the first two holes and Matsuyama bogeyed his first hole.

After that, Matsuyama opened up a commanding lead on the back nine, however, bogeyed the 14th hole and put his ball in the water on the par 5 15th hole.

The young superstar from Japan would bogey the hole, and combined with a birdie from Xander Schauffele, now was just ahead by two shots.

However, Schauffele would inexplicably put his ball in the water on 16 and make triple bogey to end his chances.

Matsuyama would cruise in the final two holes to seal the historic victory.

He had a two shot lead going into 18 and had a tap in bogey putt to win.

Other chasers, including Justin Rose and Jordan Spieth faded quickly and were never factors in the tournament.
