Welch Tied for 21st, Oklahoma 2nd After Round 1 at Aggie Invitational
Patrick Welch made 15 pars en route to a first round 74 and a tie for 21st at the Aggie Invitational at Traditions Golf Club on Friday afternoon.
Welch is back in the Oklahoma lineup after playing as an individual in last week’s tournament.
Meanwhile, #1 Oklahoma posted a two-over par 290 and sits in second place, seven shots back of Texas.
The Sooners were led by Garett Reband and Quade Cummins.
“Quade and Garett did a nice job for us today getting it under par. We didn’t make very many putts today, but our guys are figuring the golf course out, and a north wind will really change it up tomorrow, so we’ll have to be ready,” said Head Coach Ryan Hybl.
Cummins led all Sooners with a three-under par 69, while Reband posted a one-under 71.
The Sooners will look to close the seven-shot gap that No. 5 Texas holds on Saturday morning when they tee off with the Longhorns and host team No. 12 Texas A&M.
