Course Review: Kirkbrae Country Club – April 10, 2021

I played Kirkbrae Country Club for the first time in the 2021 golf season and, as usual, I had a great time.

Kirkbrae is the host of the 2021 Rhode Island Amateur Championship, which is scheduled for mid-July.

For April, the course was in fine shape.

The fairways were great, the greens were slower than they will be in June, July and August. I struggled to adjust for a good portion of the round – but, that’s on me, obviously.

If you were in the rough, deep in the rough, it got tricky as there was cut up trees and other debris from the winter.

That is expected to be cleaned up in the coming days and weeks.

Course Changes

There are a few changes to Kirkbrae, one which is very noticable, the other is not so much – unless you are a sand expert.

The biggest change is on the tenth hole where the bunkers on the left side of the fairway were taken out and replace with grass.

The other change is that another bunker was added near the tenth green to give players a second thought about going for the green in one.

This season, Kirkbrae also switched the type of sand in the bunkers.

Thankfully, I was not in a bunker today, but members tell me that they really like it.

It was a beautiful day outside and a ton of fun to be out there.
