COMING MONDAY: The Woonsocket Dynasty – A High School Golf Story

Dynasty….

Merriam-Webster defines dynasty as a powerful group or family that maintains its position for a considerable time.

Coming on Monday, April 5, GolfNewsRI will take an in depth look at arguably the greatest high school golf dynasty in Rhode Island history – Woonsocket High School.

“The story of the Woonsocket High School golf dynasty is a fascinating one. Coach Dick Palazzini’s historic run encompassed multiple eras of golf in the state, and some of the best high school players to ever touch a club,” said GolfNewsRI Co Founder Joe Calabro.

From 1967 to 1983, the Villa Novans won 11 division titles, all led by Coach Palazzini – who recently passed away.

“The idea for this came as a way to pay tribute to Coach Pal. I think we were able to do that and I hope everyone enjoys it,” said Calabro.

GolfNewsRI tells the story of the teams, the players and how the game of golf slowly changed from one year to another.

“In putting this together, we talked to a number of former players, from a number of different eras. Those players, along with documents from the Woonsocket Public Library have been huge in helping us put this together,” Calabro added.
