VIDEO: Rory McIlroy has Complete Meltdown in Loss to Poulter

Rory McIlroy lost to Ian Poulter in a day one match on Wednesday morning at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play Invitational in Texas.

On the face of it, that is not all that bad. The two players know each other well and it is a comfortable match for Poulter.

However, the way McIlroy played is cause for alarm.

McIlroy’s Meltdown

After being one down through the first three holes, McIlroy lost the fourth hole after three-putting from 18 feet.

On the fifth tee, McIlroy put his shot in the water. The problem is, there is no water on the hole.

McIlroy put his shot in someones pool…

After being three down through five, McIlroy got one back on six with a close approach

That was about the only positive for McIlroy on this day.

He would lose to Poulter 6&5 on the 13th hole.

On the final hole, one that McIlroy needed, he chipped the ball all the way across the green and into the water.

McIlroy most recently hired Pete Cowan as his swing coach. He still works with Brad Faxon on putting.

It appears Cowan has some work to do.
