“Team played better today. Dan Kurson and Doug Champagne shot even par 72. Pat Galleher solid round +2. Tyler Hahn made a few birdies coming in to shoot +3. Overall we improved as a team and are looking forward to nice weather and Penn national in the first week in April” said head coach Charlie Blanchard after the tournament.

Fairleigh Dickinson won the tournament with a score of 20-over par.

The Bulldogs will next compete in the Fairleigh Dickinson Invitational starting on April 1.

URI Withdraws Due to Covid

The University of Rhode Island men’s golf team was also scheduled to compete in the Carpetbaggers Classic.

However, positive coronavirus tests forced them to withdraw from their first two tournaments of the year.

“While we are disappointed to have to withdraw from two tournaments in which we hoped to compete, it is much more important that we do everything to protect the health and safety of not just our own team but the couple dozen teams playing in those two events. It was incredibly reassuring to see how quickly our Sports Medicine staff reacted to the positive test and how wonderfully patient and professional URI Health Services was upon our return to campus. Similarly, Campus Housing and the obviously well thought out policies and efficiency in getting our guys isolated was remarkable,” said URI Head Coach Gregg Burke in a statement.

The Rams are hoping to play in their next tournament, the Rolling Green Invitational in Pennsylvania on April 3.

However, that is unclear at the moment.

Burke added, “Right now we are monitoring the infected player as well as those exposed.  We look forward to a safe return to competition when the medical folks tell us it is safe for all involved.”
