Honda Classic to Rename Media Center After URI Grad Tim Rosaforte
The Honda Classic has announced that it will remain its media center after University of Rhode Island grad and legendary golf writer Tim Rosaforte.
In addition, The Honda Classic is creating a perpetual award in Rosaforte’s honor – The Tim Rosaforte Distinguished Writers’ Award.

Rosaforte has been named the first recipient of the award by the tournament.
“Tim is one of this generation’s great golf journalists. He has developed relationships and trust from so many in the game, and you always knew that if there was an important story to be told in golf, Tim was going to be the first call you received and usually the first one to report it,” said Jack Nicklaus, host of The Honda Classic.
The Memorial Tournament also recently announced Rosaforte as a recipient of the 2021 Memorial Golf Journalism Award.
Rosaforte’s Career
Rosaforte, now 65, covered the game of golf for almost four decades and worked at Golf Digest for over 20 years.
After graduating from URI in 1977, he moved to Florida and started working for the Tampa Times.
After that, he worked for the Sun-Sentinel and the Palm Beach Post.
In 1993, he took a job at Sports Illustrated before joining Golf Digest in 1996.
He eventually moved to TV where he worked for the USA Network’s “PGA Tour Sunday” in 2003 and then Golf Channel.
In 2014, Rosaforte received the PGA’s Lifetime Achievement Award in Journalism.
Rosaforte retired in 2019.
Sadly, according to Golf Digest, Rosaforte is currently battling early onset Alzheimer’s Disease.
