Welch, Oklahoma Struggle on Day 2 of Cabo Collegiate
After lighting it up on day one, Patrick Welch and the #1 Oklahoma Sooners struggled mightily on day two.
Welch shot a second round 77 and fell all the way to ninth place, while Oklahoma remains in first, but their eight shot lead is down to three.
“We didn’t get off to a great start this morning, but the guys hung in there, and we have a chance to do something great tomorrow,” said Oklahoma Head Coach Ryan Hybl.
Welch is two over for the tournament and five shots back of Florida State’s Vincent Norman.
The Sooners have a three shot lead over second place Florida State.
The Sooners will tee off at 9 a.m. on Wednesday.
Welch’s Second Round
Welch got off to a great start in the round, birding the opening hole to get to four under for the tournament.
After five consecutive pars, welch made back-to-back bogeys on the seventh and eighth holes to finish the front nine at one over par.
Welch bounced back with a birdie on the tenth hole, but the round got away from him after that.
The fifth ranked player in the country played the final eight holes at five over par, including a double-bogey on the par five 18th hole to shoot 77.
He will look to make a big run on Wednesday.
