Welch Leads Oklahoma After Day 1 of Seminole Intercollegiate

Providence native Patrick Welch fired a first round 69 (-3) to lead the University of Oklahoma after day one of the Seminole Intercollegiate in Tallahassee, Florida on Friday. 

Welch is tied for fifth overall, and  #1 Oklahoma is tied for fifth as a team.

The tournament is a 54-hole marathon, so the Sooners will have a good chance to move up. 

Welch’s Round 

The Classical alum got off to a slow start, making the turn at 1-over 37.

However, he went on a run on the back nine, shooting 4-under 32 to post 69.

Welch’s 3-under 69 marks his 14th round in the 60s at Oklahoma, where he owns the school record for career scoring average (71.12). 

In his 50 rounds played in the Crimson and Cream, the seventh-ranked player in the country has built a reputation as one of the bright young talents in collegiate golf and seeks his fifth top-5 finish. 

Welch is on the course right now for Oklahoma in the second round.
