R&A Pulls Trump’s Turnberry from Open Rotation

It appears that the British Open will not be returning to Turnberry anytime soon.

One day after the PGA of America pulled the 2022 PGA Championship from President Donald Trump’s course in New Jersey, the R&A issued a statement regarding Trump’s Turnberry Resort.

“We had no plans to stage any of our championships at Turnberry and will not do so in the foreseeable future. We will not return until we are convinced that the focus will be on the championship, the players and the course itself and we do not believe that is achievable in the current circumstances,” R&A Chief Executive Martin Slumbers.

Trump Turnberry is considered one of the most picturesque of the Open venues.

It is famous for the 1977 “Duel in the Sun” between Tom Watson and Jack Nicklaus.
