PGA Tour superstars Justin Thomas and Rory McIlroy are headed over seas to battle in the first event of the European Tour season.
The two committed to the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship on Wednesday.
“It’s always a great event for the players and it’s the perfect place for me to start the 2021 season,” said McIlroy in a statement.
Thomas added, “I’m excited to play for the first time in Abu Dhabi. I’ve heard really great things about the course, and with it being the first Rolex Series tournament of the year, I’m sure it is going to deliver a strong field.”
The tournament is set for January 21st through January 24.
Abu Dhabi marks just the fourth European Tour start for Thomas, who last played overseas at the 2019 Scottish Open.
McIlroy has four runner-up finishes at Abu Dhabi, but no wins.
Both Thomas and McIlroy are expected to make their 2021 debuts in Hawaii.
