She will replace Peter Dawson, who has held the position for ten years.

“I am extremely honored to have been selected as the new IGF president and I look forward to working the Board, the IOC and the governing bodies of golf in their efforts to continue to grow the game globally,” writes Sorenstam in a statement on Twitter.

The move comes as the game of golf is preparing for next year’s Tokyo Olm

“I very much look forward to working with the Board, the IOC and the governing bodies of golf in their efforts to continue to grow the game globally,” writes Sorenstam.

Sorenstam is a ten time major winner.

She played in the 2012 CVS Charity Classic in Rhode Island.
