Newport CC’s Shepherd Finishes 11th at NEPGA Assistant’s Championship

Newport Country Club’s Dan Shepherd finished in 11th place at the NEPGA Assistant’s Championship held on Monday and Tuesday at Renaissance Golf Club in Massachusetts.

Shepherd shot 81 on the first day and 72 on the second day to finish nine over for the two days.

North Kingstown’s Brian Owens finished in a tie for 12th with a score of ten over.

Warren Wins

Falmouth’s Shawn Warren won the tournament going away, firing a nine0under par 135 for the two days.

“It’s championship golf and the way Max (Doctoroff) has been setting them up, it’s difficult out there. I think the scores reflect that you really have to golf your ball. There’s a lot of trouble waiting out there,” said Warren.

He now qualifies to play int he National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship in November in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Warren’s win adds to an already spectacular year on the course. Last month he competed in the PGA Championship at TPC Harding Park then cruised to a 5-stroke victory in the NEPGA Championship, his third Section title and second consecutive.
