Bettor Places $45K on Mickelson to Win U.S. Open

There is betting, and then there is betting.

Recently, one gambler placed $45,000 on Phil Mickelson to win next week’s U.S Open at Winged Foot.

Mickelson is 75-1 odds and it pays $3.3 million.

“Heard someone place 45k on me to win the open at 75-1 (pays 3.3 mil)

Hoping for both of us I have a 3 shot lead on 18 tee,” wrote Mickelson in a tweet.

Mickelson is 50 years old and has six runner-up finishes at the U.S. Open, most notably in 2006 when he held a two shot lead on the 18th tee at Winged Foot before famously putting his tee shot in the trees.

Hence, his comment about having a three shot lead this year.

This season, Mickelson has been mostly irrelevant on the PGA Tour, really not being competitive at any event.

However, all it takes is one magical week.
