Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Keith MacWhorter is among the participants in the 62nd Rhode Senior Amateur being held at Triggs Memorial this week.
After growing up in North Providence and attending Bryant College, MacWhorter pitched for Boston during the 1980 season.
That season, he posted an 0-3 record with a 5.53 ERA in 14 appearances, including two starts, five games finished, 21 strikeouts, 18 walks, 46 hits allowed and 42 1/3 innings pitched.
His last MLB debut was October of 1980.
In an eight season career, including several minor league stints, MacWhorter went 48-56 with 570 strikeouts and a 3.86 ERA in 861 1/3 innings.
MacWhorter, who plays out of Montaup, is currently nine-over par for the tournament.
West Warwick’s Rob Grossguth and Potowomut’s Dante Najarian lead the way at two-under.
