Rahm Picks Ball Up Without Marking it – 1 Stroke Penalty
PGA Tour star Jon Rahm made a big mental mistake on Saturday afternoon that cost him the low round of the week.
On the fifth green, Rahm picked his ball up without marking it and received a one stroke penalty.
He ended up making bogey on the hole and shot a 4-under par 66 for the day.
“I was holding my marker in my pocket, just went at it, and for some reason I just picked up the ball thinking I marked it already. I don’t know if the camera saw my face or not, but I mean, when I was touching it just off the ground, I knew. And I looked at (caddie) Adam (Hayes) like, I just froze. I didn’t know. I didn’t know what happened, how it happened or how to proceed. That’s all I can say,” Rahm said after the round.
Dustin Johnson and Hideki Matsuyama lead the tournament at one under par.
