Webb Simpson has withdrawn from this week’s BMW Championship at Olympia Fields to rest or the Tour Championship.

Simpson is currently number three in the FedEx Cup standings and is in no danger of not making the cut.

“After playing consecutive weeks, Webb is taking the week off in order to be rested for the Tour Championship in Atlanta,” Simpson’s representation said.

The withdrawal could mean that Simpson drops as far as number six in the standings heading into the Tour championship.

It does depend a little bit on what happens directly behind him.

Simpson’s Season

Simpson has played four straight weeks, finishing in a tie for 3rd at the Wyndham and tied for sixth at last week’s Northern Trust.

Simpson won the PGA Tour’s first tournament back, the RBC Heritage.

It is also worth noting that the U.S. Open at Winged Foot is about a month away.
