Papa Wins RI Women’s Stroke Play Championship
The summer of Gianna Papa rolls on.
Just two weeks or so after finishing second at the Rhode Island Women’s Amateur, Papa won the Women’s Stroke Play Championship on Monday at Wannamoisett Country Club.
Papa, 13, fired a one over par 74 to edge Kylie Eaton by three shots.
Papa beat Eaton in the semifinals of the Women’s Amateur two weeks ago.
After saving par on the first four holes, Papa bogeyed the par four fifth hole to go to one over.
She would make the turn at that number.
On the back nine, Papa parred 10 and 11, before bogeying the par three 12th hole to drop to two over on the day.
Papa would play the final six holes at one under par with a birdie on 16 to finish at one over par.
Papa’s sister Vincenza finished fifth.
