Peter Walsh: Club Pros Competing at PGA Championship

So today is a bit of a shout out to some fellow New England PGA Professionals who are playing in the PGA Championship beginning today.

It is run by The PGA of America and there are close to 29000 PGA professionals and associates.

This week 20 PGA Club professionals get to tee it up, two of which are from New England.

Shawn Warren – Falmouth Country Club – ME, Portland, Maine

Rich Berberian Jr. – Vesper Country Club, Tyngsboro, Massachusetts

They are both very accomplished golfers but what would you think it would be like to play along side Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka?

Of course the Club pros have some other duties apart from playing golf.

They work at golf clubs that we play checking us in for our tee times, regripping clubs, helping us with golf club and ball purchases, running our club events, providing rulings during our play.

They are the experts in our game.

I hope you will be pulling for the 20 PGA club pros playing this week, I know I am. Everyone loves an underdog.

Maybe lightning can strike and we can have a top 10 finish.

The last top 10 came from a very famous Tour Pro who turned PGA Club Professional, Sam Snead, 1973.

Peter Walsh currently serves as the Head Golf Professional at Kings Crossing Country Club.  Prior to Kings Crossing Walsh was an assistant Golf Professional at Cape May National Golf Club in southern New Jersey under Pro Emeritus Skee Riegal, 1947 US Amateur Champion, 1951 second at Masters to Ben Hogan and Head Golf Professional, Russell O. Davis Philadelphia PGA teacher of the year.
