O’Leary Finishes T21, Leopold T14 at NE Amateur
Rhode Island golf star Andrew O’Leary finished in a tie for 21st, while two time RI Amateur champion Bobby Leopold finished in a tie for 14th at the New England Amateur Championship this week at Concord country Club in Massachusetts.
John Broderick won the tournament in a playoff over Nick Maccario.
The fourth and final round of the tournament was canceled due to weather.
Thursday’s round included a five hour weather delay.
Leopold Makes Run
After opening the tournament with a first round 75, Leopold followed up with a second round 70.
In Thursday’s final round, the former RI Amateur champion opened with three straight birdies and four birdies in the first five holes to go to four under par.
Leopold bogeyed eight, but still shot a three under opening nine to move top the leaderboard.
However, he struggled to the finish.
Leopold bogeyed 12, 15,16 and 18 to shoot a final round 71.
After the first round, O’Leary was tied for fourth overall with a one-under 69, but from there it went down hill.
O’Leary followed up a second-round 72 with a third and final round 76.
He opened with a birdie on one, but then doubled back-to-back holes.
After parring ten straight holes, O’Leary bogeyed 14,15, and 16 before stopping the bleeding with a birdie on 17.
He closed with a bogey on 18 to shoot 76,
